This article explains the roles that grant permission to edit contracts and details the optional **Blocking of overlapping contracts** functionality, which prevents simultaneous editing conflicts.

---

### Contract Editing Permissions

The ability to modify a contract is determined by a user's role and specific contract assignments:

- **Contract Management Administrators:** These users have the highest level of access and can edit **all contracts** within the organisation.
- **Persons Responsible for the Contract:** Users can modify a contract if they are designated as the primary **person responsible** or an **alternate responsible** for that contract.
- **Usage Rights Assignment:** Editing rights can also be assigned through the contract's usage settings to:
  - Specific **individual users**.
  - **Users of an entire unit** (i.e., users of the main-level sub-unit).

To edit a contract, locate it in the contract listing view, click the **menu icon** (three lines), and select the option with the **pencil icon**.

### Blocking of Overlapping Contracts (*Optional Feature*)

This functionality is designed to prevent two users from editing the same contract simultaneously, thereby avoiding data conflicts.

#### When Another User Has Editing Rights

When this function is active, if **User 1** is already editing a contract, **User 2** who attempts to access the edit mode will be informed: *"another user is currently editing the contract, please wait a moment"*.

- **User 2** is moved to the **contract viewing mode**.
- The editing option remains visible, allowing User 2 to periodically check if the editing right has been released.
- The right to edit is released when User 1 finishes editing the contract or moves to a different section of the Mercell system (is no longer in editing mode).

#### Taking Editing Rights from Another User

A special permission is granted to the **main user of the main level contract management**:

- If **User 1** is editing the contract and **User 2** (the main user) attempts to edit it, User 2 will initially receive the same **"another user is currently editing the contract, wait a moment"** notification.
- However, User 2 can proceed to click on the notification/edit option.
- User 2 is then given the choice:
  - Go to **view the contract**.
  - **Reject the other user's changes.**

If User 2 chooses **rejection**:

1. The system asks for confirmation: *"are you sure?"*
2. If **Yes** is selected, the edits made by User 1 are **not saved** (they are rejected).
3. The right to edit the contract is transferred to User 2.
4. User 1 is informed that User 2 now has the right to edit and is automatically moved to the viewing mode.
